Unsustainable recovery? Gas prices surge as global demand fuels energy crunch

And just as Covid exposed how vulnerable humanity's become to taut global supply chains for such basics as pharmaceuticals and face masks, those same supply chains are now out of whack what with whole world putting in factory orders at the same time.

We ask about blackouts in China, coal shortages in India, bidding wars for liquified natural gas from Qatar and claims that Russia's leveraging its own gas exports to apply political pressure. If Europe's so heavily dependent on natural gas, it is because it has been touted as the great bridging energy, a least worst stopgap option to help our planet transition from fossil fuels to renewables. The current energy crunch comes amidst a climate emergency with urgent calls to hasten that transition. How? And how to make it through the coming winter?
