A 315 KVA/0,4KV substation worth $200 000 was commissioned on Monday, 2 March 2014 by the Honorable Chimanimani West Member of  the National Assembly Dr Samuel Undenge amid pomp and fanfare. This milestone achievement is set to benefit at least 198 households in Garikai high density suburb of Chimanimani with 23 houses having already been connected.

According to the Chimanimani residents the switch on ceremony was one of the best ceremonies to be hosted in the town in recent years judging by the setup of giant tents and state of the art mobile toilets courtesy of Rooney’s. The function was not short of entertainment as it was graced by Hwamanda dance group and a Zimdancehall music group whose performances left the huge crowd clamoring for more.

Not to be outdone were school kids from Chimanimani Secondary school who put in a descent traditional dance performance. The kids from both Chimanimani Secondary and Ngangu Primary schools took turns to woo the crowd by captivating poems thanking the MP and ZETDC for the project, warning residents on the dangers of misusing electricity as well as tips on safe and efficient use of electricity.

An elated beneficiary of the project, Paul Shamhu had this to say; “Having electricity will help cut some of the daily costs like buying firewood and not being in positions to stock perishables. This is a blessing to everyone including widows and orphans.”

In his speech, Dr Undenge thanked ZETDC staff for professionalism exhibited during the duration of the project and said this was a step in the right direction towards achieving the economic blue print Zim – Asset objectives on the Infrastructure and Utilities cluster.
